I am having a really shitty day.
Seriously. The only good thing in my life right now is my boyfriend.
Otherwise, I’m gaining weight, talentless, being rejected from every job I apply for, always being looked down on and my mother is vile to me.

I know my art sucks, but this is a character of mine. My personal sketches of her are alright, but my online pictures suck. Anyway she kicks ass and has lots of scars.
1. Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite of all favourites. It’s a brilliant game, with a perfect atmosphere, characters and story-line. Not to mention brilliant character development. It’s my all time favourite game.
Best quote: “I am Ultimecia. Time shall compress… All existence denied.”
2. Final Fantasy VII is my second favourite. But, it does have my all-time favourite environments. The land is very pretty, the characters are fun and the gameplay superb. An all-time classic.
Best quote: “Hold on to your drawers, an’ don’t piss in ‘em!”
3. Final Fantasy V is a game which I have a huge soft spot for. It’s such a nice game, with fun gameplay, a fantastic job system and some very funny moments! I love this game.
Best quote: “Enough expository banter. It’s time we fight like men. And ladies. And ladies who dress like men. For Gilgamesh…IT IS MORPHING TIME!”
4. Final Fantasy VI is the one I recently beat for the first time! It was very fun to play, and had superb environments, amazing music and some awfully lovable characters. I love all of the FF villains, but Kefka is up there in the top! Primarily due to his humour and hey why not destroy the world, amiryt?
Best quote: “I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate you!”
5. Final Fantasy X may be the most recent on this list, but it would have been higher had you asked me a few years back. I adore the protagonist of this game due to personal experiences and I love the way it tackles religeon, racism and several other things. I find this game sweet, and very fun!
Best quote: “I’m sorry I couldn’t show you Zanarkand.”
I first played FFVII, when it came out. My older sister bought it for her and my other sisters to play, and I’d merely sit in the background and watch them. I finally decided to start playing it myself, when I was around 9, 10. Something like that. So, why do I feel it’s been ruined over time? I’ll tell you.
1. One of the primary lovable things of FFVII was it’s environments. Check out Midgar Slums.

Now, is it me, or is there a real dark-dingy sorta feeling to these places? They’re dark, only lit by neon. All the buildings look like they’re made out of shitty tins. That’s how crappy these people live. The floor looks like a combination of mud and dust and it looks like some sort of future nobody would wanna live in.
Now let’s take a look at the more modern takes on Midgar…

Well this looks fucking exciting! Lots and lots of…grey.
Everywhere. It’s so dull. It’s like a fucking Nolan Batman film. It’s just boring, deprived of all sort of fantasy. It’s not very imaginative. Way to go ruin my view of the slums, guys.
2. My second reason for such belief would be…The characters.
Let’s take a look at how they used to be done!
Cloud:
This guy looks like a soldier, throughout the game he’s okay. He says things like ‘Let’s mosey’ and he dresses like a woman at one point! Haha, what a fun guy. No but really, I never minded him. I found him interesting, cool, and yet funny at times…Now for reboot Cloud.
Look. His parents wouldn’t buy him an iPad okay! But seriously, in the original game - he went through SHIT. He lost his best friend, lost his girlfriend, realised his life was a load of shit - but he persevered and became a tough badass FF protagonist who whooped Seth! And now all of a sudden he’s dressing in black and moaning about everything? Why? He shouldn’t look like this, he should look full of hope - eyes wide! Hair overly spikey! Instead he looks like he’s been to one too many MCR concerts. And no, I don’t like the argument that Cloud is emo. Because in the original game, he isn’t.
Vincent:
No pictures this time, and the same goes for Yuffie. Both are OPTIONAL characters. Hell, without guides, I’m surprised people even bothered with Yuffie. Yet in KH, and also Advent Children - both (especially Vincent) are featured quite prominantly. These brothers weren’t even in the game’s cutscenes!
3. My third reason for thinking FFVII has been shat on would be…the fans.
Yeah, I said it. Come on at me and tell me I’m wrong, I couldn’t give a fuck. To be honest, I remember when it all began. FFVII was a well-renowned game. One of the top PSX games, many people liked it. BUT, I was in school at the time, and only one other person was a fan. Now this was near when it came out, too! Anyway, I remember watching AC with my sister. Rufus was back, that was cool. But the story was lazy and boring I thought. I saw a pirated copy, so this was before it had even came out. Anyhow I know it was either just before or after it came out. But all of a sudden, every emo/scene kid and other sheep there was suddenly jumped on the bandwagon. It was so hardcorzz. They’d watch AC at college, claiming it was Anime before putting on Naruto. They’re play ten seconds of the game and say ‘omg best evas’. They were a plague. They made Square release Dirge of Cerberus, AC, FFVII animes etc etc. But the fandom annoys me now because of the fact it feels they only ever focus on the new FFVII stuff. I don’t know why, but my whole life I’ve been attracted to the original of things. Old school RE/FF/TR etc. So when I see these kids going on about ‘hottie’ AC Cloud. It annoys me so much. When some talk of his ‘brooding’ nature, it makes me wonder if they even bothered playing the game.
4. My fourth reason for feeling this game has been shat on, is, because it’s overrated.
I said it. The forbidden O-word. But, I guess it’s true. A lot of people say they like FFVII without even knowing what the bloody game is about, and that has rubbed off onto the game. When I turn to someone and say I enjoy FFVII, and they say ‘oh my god, overrated trash.’ You know there’s a problem. The game has become so popular, it seems to trend more enemies than fans. Which I find sad, because I think the game itself is a masterpiece and many people come from CoD or other modern games, play it, and then think ‘the fuck is this.’ I guess it’s a required taste.
5. The spin-offs.
Dirge of Cerburus, Advent Children etc. I don’t care for the FFVII universe anymore. It ended when meteor was destroyed and the land was shown 500 years later from Nanaki’s point of view. But people can’t drop it, instead they demand that there be more. I say no more. Let us embrace an almost-perfect game and stop releasing half-assed rehashed of excellent characters/storylines etc. AC/Dirge etc all seem to miss the point off FFVII, I feel. They rid of the cyber-punk atmosphere, motivations, environments and story. It’s sad. FFVII should have ended years ago.
- The original is in my personal top 5 games of all time, I happily play the newer FF games. But if I go on the tag and see another picture of new sad-pretty-boy Cloud looking broody, I’ll punch something. It completely destroys the point of the original game. All I am reminded of is the scene in which Cloud admits to the team that he wasn’t in soldier, he seems…almost gleeful. Happy that he knows who he is and what he’s doing. To watch the spin-offs and see he’s some depressed pretty-boy is ridiculous. He was a heroic-looking dude in a cyberpunk world, and now he’s not. He’s a brightly-lit bland character who looks lives in a grey boring world devoid of all of the life the original game had.
